Circa Late 30s to 40s Black Leather Toy Tilt Topper Hat with Huge Red Bows
This is one of my favorites! A petite toy tilt hat of soft black glove/kid leather trimmed with big red grosgrain ribbon bows, overlapping one another & draping off the brim~ Certainly a rather high end hat for the time period.
Circa Late 30s to 40s Black Spangled Loops & Veil Juliette Cap Hat
A darling little Juliette cap of black felt with big same fabric loops accented with sparkling black spangles & finished with a scrumptious, long black veil. A very coquettish little number!
Circa Late 30s to 40s Rhinestone Sprinkled Lace Black Velvet Tilt Topper Hat
A sultry & oh so flirtatious black velvet number, very similar to a newsboy cap or a beret but with va~va~va~voom accents of fine black Chantilly lace, accented with rhinestones, as an eye skimming blusher & a skirt at the back.
Circa Late 30s, early 40s Darling Roses Trimmed Blue Cell Toy Tilt Hat
A cute~as~can~be tilt hat of glossy, deep blue cellophane straw trimmed with beautiful (very fresh looking for their age too!) millinery roses & a dab of netting, the head strap is a clever use of folded over & intertwined grosgrain ribbon (many such inventive millinery innovations came about during the rationing of supplies up to & through WWII).
Circa Late 30s, 40s LONG Tassel Brown Felt Fez
A jaunty fez, so popular in the late 30s to 40s, made of chocolate brown felt with numerous stitching details & a very long, same fabric tassel draping off the crown. Another fun example of the creativity milliners used when faced with the supply rationing of WWII~ using all the scraps of materials & embellishing with stitching!
Circa Late 30s, 40s BIG Bows & Lucite Flowers Brimmed Hat
A striking style, very mens wear & art deco inspired. A firm black hat with turned up brim trimmed with fantastic, big satin & grosgrain ribbon “bows” accented with large, crystal clear flower jewels.
Circa Late 30s, 40s LONG Black Tassel & Frog Bumper Brim Tilt Topper Hat
An ultra chic, tiny black bumper brim felt tilt topper with simple felt knots on the crown & across the back, but oh, the back! A very long & slinky rayon satin tassel hangs alluringly off the pointed back, attached by an ornate frog. All I can say is “WOW”!
Circa Late 30s, early 40s Black Spangles & Fishnet Toy Tilt Topper Hat
A glitzy little toy tilt topper, like a tiny top hat, in sparkling black spangles, the open crown overlaid with wide fishnet, big fishnet bows on one side & even the head strap is fishnet! Toy tilt hats were one of the millinery designers answers to the WWII supply rationing; make smaller hats~use less materials.
Circa Late 1930s~Mid 1940s BIG Feathered Faux Bird Trimmed Black Wide Brim Hat
A scrumptious & well styled number, all artfully blocked & sculpted felt with a single, large faux bird complete with long, glossy iridescent tail draping down the back~
Circa Late 1930s 1940s Black & Red Felt & Suede Sugar Loaf Witch Pilgrim Style Hat
A truly playful hat of black felt with a tall, sugar loaf style crown, fire engine red suede band & tiny black bows with a sculpted & curved brim, decidedly pilgrimesque or witch couture! I gave into temptation & wore this for Halloween as a Pin Up 40s style witch, wickedly fun!
Circa Late 1930s 1940s Black Feathers & Fishnet Cocktail Hat
A glamorous black felt cap cleverly styled with very little actual material (WWII war effort rationing of millinery supplies) & artfully accented with sumptuous sprays of black feathers & large fishnet netting at the back, two hat pins are still in place~ oh, that Old Hollywood elegance!
Circa Late 1930s 1940s Brown Robin Hood Hat with a Long Tailed Pheasant
A striking & now rare Robin Hood inspired brown felt hat trimmed with a gorgeous faux pheasant made of real feathers over a spun cotton body, check out those tail feathers!
Circa Late 1930s 1940s Brown Felt Wide Brim Tilt Hat with Enormous Rose
A very chic & feminine brown felt tilt hat with a generous brim, trimmed with a large, coiling same fabric rose cleverly constructed from smaller felt scraps (a direct result of the WWII war effort rationing imposed on milliners). This lovely hat was worn by a bride for her wedding, which was very common during the war, when weddings were a bit of a rushed affair, before seeing ones sweetheart off to serve. How romantic!
Circa Late 1930s Black Cat Ears Hat
A whimsical black, spiraling cello straw hat styled in the shape of cat ears, reminiscent of some of Renaissance head dresses, with a delightful, looping, back head grip
